SWARMFIELD (2023)
The Power of Light Attraction
This project is an immersive art piece that delves into the tension and symbiosis between human-driven industrial growth and the resilience of the natural world. Employing industrial materials such as electrical cables and laser projections, the installation offers a critique on the consequences of urban light pollution on insect populations. The experience focuses on the theme of adaptability, examining how nocturnal creatures like fireflies and moths navigate and adapt to an environment increasingly dominated by man-made illumination.
This installation merges nature with technology, capturing visitors’ hand gestures through a Leap Motion Sensor that transforms fingertips into points of laser light. Suspended paper blooms symbolize industrially influenced habitats, while an ambient soundscape of disrupted natural sounds mixed with urban echoes explores the fragile balance between organic and artificial realms.
